About

The Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) is an incorporated body and public trust to advance the objectives of national unity and development through quality access to education in Nigeria. It comprises former Alumni and graduates of the Federal Government Colleges, also known as Unity Schools, form 104 such schools all over Nigeria. Promoted by the government in Nigeria in the decades between the mid-1960s and the 1980s, the Unity Schools were founded on a philosophy of quality instruction and inter-community coexistence as the bases of national unity and development. Today, it is safe to say that the Unity Schools are, by far, Nigeria’s greatest and most successful investment in human capital development.

Successive generations of the alumni of the Unity Schools have gone on to excel in all areas of endeavour within and beyond Nigeria, including politics and public service, the private sector, civic and voluntary sectors, the armed services, the regulatory sector and institutions, the professions and faith leadership among others. They are also drawn from all parts and localities of Nigeria and are to be found in all communities and institutions around the country.
This background and network gives USOSA an unparalleled depth and breadth of human assets network and enables it to provide informed contributions to public policy making in Nigeria. This is a role that USOSA should increasingly evince for itself. In particular, it is important that at a time of national crisis, such as Nigeria is going through presently, USOSA is able to deploy its network assets constructively in search of creative solutions based on national understanding and dialogue. This is the niche that this initiative is designed to fill.
